'Materials' & 'Groups'

Hi.

In the past when I’ve made a simple, spherical eye, I have grouped the mesh into 3 parts: Pupil, Iris and White so that each group could have its own material. I tried to reproduce this yesterday with no success. Whenever I isolate a group to assign it a material, the material for all groups changes. What am I missing this time around?

Also, when I apply a texture to the eye (iris art), the base material becomes over-ridden and views as the default Red Clay, even though the preview windows show the base material (Toy Plastic/White) previously filled in.

Thanks!

Hi.

I think I know what’s up. When I made a New Texture from my polypaint iris, two files were generated: a .PSD file and a .MTL file, a ‘Material’ file. Somewhere along the way, this .MTL file was misplaced or deleted. When I re-made the New Texture, I made sure to keep the .MTL file in the same folder with the .PSD. So far, no more problem.

Thanks, All!

Or use SubTool Master, from the Download Center. See my signature.

Thanks, Aurick!

Say, is there such a thing as a ‘Transparent’ material in ZBRush? Maybe ZBrush 4? I mean a ‘Material’ that can be assigned or polypainted to parts of a model so that lenses, windows, eyes, bottles, etc. could have controllable opacity without each piece requiring a separate document layer.

Thanks!
