Materials and layers issue Help please!

Hi, working on a project with layers in 4r4. Here’s where the issue is:

-Under the Material palette, select the White Cavity shader. Load tooland draw iton the canvas. If you saved the tool with the texture applied, it will load with the colormap already on. Make sure it fills the screen by scaling it up and drop the tool by exiting Edit mode
.
(That’s fine so far…)

-Create a new layer with Layer -Create. By keeping elements separate on layers, you are able to easily apply different materials to them. When a new layer is created, anytool that is in Edit mode will be dropped to the canvas and no longer editable in the 3D view.

(Ok, this worked too, I can see the new layer added in the layer window)

-Change to the Copper material created earlier in this chapter. If you need to load it[FONT=Sabon-Roman]again, do so by selecting Materials; Load.

[FONT=Sabon-Roman](Here’s the problem; when I load the new material for the new tool, it puts in on the tool in the first layer also…HELP)

-Load new tooland draw it on the canvas.
The new tool will draw with the Copper material applied.

Thanks in advance for help on this!

Layers are great but you may want to work with sub tools. Polypainting them individually seems to work very well once you know the steps. There is ‘hair loss potential’ with this bit.http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Polypainting

Yeah, might give a that a shot instead. Definately a ‘hair-pulling’ situation. Basically, it just keeps applying the new material to the earlier layer also. Thanks.

BTW, ver. 4R5 is out.
