Material hell

Hello

I’ve been working on a 2.5D concept piece and its supposed to be all made out of clay. I’m actually using the default red wax material and it looks great. I started pissing around with the light tab to try position the light but ended up losing my material (I went into light - lightcap horizon - and adjusted the horizon slider to see what it does.)

What happened is everything went grey, all the layers were assigned a new material and the red wax material is gone in the materials tab. When I try find it in the lightbox files i’m just getting two options for materials - gradient sky greyscale and some other. I think whatever i did I’ probably still have light selected? Dunno cause I’m very new to zbrush

Any ideas?

Yes, if you create a LightCap then it changes the selected material. The simplest thing to do is this:

  1. Save your project using the File>Save As button.
  2. Restart ZBrush. The MatCap Red Wax material should be selected and look correct.
  3. In the Material palette, press the Save button and save the MatCap Red Wax material to the ZBrush 4R7\ZMaterials folder. This will mean you can easily load it through Lightbox.
  4. Load in your project that you saved at (1). The altered MatCap Red Wax material should be selected.
  5. Show Lightbox and load the Red Wax material you saved at (3) from the Material tab.

Cheers Marcus, will give that a go
