Material Channel Descriptors?

At the bottom of the material palette, there’s a list of “material channel descriptors” just under the texture selector. What are these for? They don’t seem to do anything.

I put down this reply from official, for same people.

The Material “Channel Descriptors” don’t do anything. I think it is probably a feature that was never completed but as they are they serve no useful purpose.
