masking/removing the layer´s content (part of it) (??)

hi, is it possible to use/apply just a part of the layer´s content?
I mean - something like masking/hiding a part of a layer …
for example - if I change my mind while sculpting in layer and decide not to use/apply all the content of the layer, but only a part of it - how do I do that? is it possible?
thanks, a.

edit: oops, bad forum - I should have posted into Questions/Troubleshooting, I guess - sorry …

It requires a little preparation. Before you start sculpting the layer, store a morph target. You can then use the Morph brush at any time to restore parts of the model to the stored state.

You can also store the morph target with the layer switched on, then turn off the layer (click the eye icon) and use the Morph Brush to restore just some of the layer sculpting.

aurick,
and marcus_civis,
tried out both methods, work fine - thanks a lot!

but - may I ask a few other questions on the issues I came across when trying out?
I read/searched the help/on-line documentation on using Morph Target - and I guess basically I understood well, perhaps - but - did not find any info on the following 2 issues:

  1. the Morph slider (within the Tool:Morph Target subpallete) - not sure on its behavior: anytime I move it, it (straight afterwards) comes back to “zero” position again … is this ok? and - does this mean that blending between the stored morph target and the actual sculptings on my model is not absolute (starting one stage and ending up the other) - but - I can add/emphasize the morph effect even more? anytime I may wish? is this safe for my model? (hope my English makes sense)

  2. what can those little “x y z” letters (to the right of the Morph slider area) be useful for? - I guess this has perhaps something to do with the symmetry (right?), but - cannot think of any situation this could be usefull for … (??) (tried to switch on/off, but did not see any difference on my model, perhaps I overlooked something in the docs info)
    thanks, a.
