Masking only edges of mesh?

I can’t seem to mask only the edges of my mesh. I’m using 4R5 currently.

The only option I seem to have is masking them freehand with the mask pen and thats just sloppy and really time consuming.

any help is appreciated.

You should upgrade to the latest version of ZBrush which is 4R7 P3. Upgrading is free to registered users.

You can use Tool>Masking>MaskByFeature with just Border selected in the options:
