Masking one color

Hi,

i wonder if its possible to mask only one color. So if i have a complex model with different colors and i want one color to be brighter, i have to paint over it, right?

But if this applied color is very tricky, a function wich masks only this color would be nice. So, is there a possibility? Mask by intensity, hue, saturation isn’t the right. And Polygroups from Polypaint completely freaks out.

your best bet is to create a texture map from your paint and export it to an image editor.

Thats not a bad idea at all! But ZBrush itselfs has not a suitable feature for such a basic use?

it can, but you have to use spotlight on a texture map. So it’s the same thing as using photoshop or an other image editor.

Ok, but how to achieve this with spotlight isn’t clear to me.
Anyway, the idea with an external picture editing program is good.

But how do i apply the modified texture back to my model?

ZZZZ zapplink http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/ZAppLink

you can find tutorials on using spotlight on pixologic’s main site in the zclassroom.

If you edit your image in another package…
Import in the new texture.
select the subtool you want to apply the texture to.
tool>texture>big button.
once that is on the mesh go to the highest subD.
tool>polypaint>polypaint from texture.

Works just fine. Thank you!

Doesn’t work fine :frowning:

If i change the layer, my new imported Textur disappears and only the new painted spots remain. Symmetry painting doesn’t work really. Partly only one side gets painted and i have to paint on the other manually. Very mysterious.

Do i have to pin the new texture map to a layer?

you didn’t say you were using layers :stuck_out_tongue:

I believe you have to apply the new texture to each layer.
I personally feel the layer painting system in Z is broken right now…or at least doesn’t have the functionality I would like to see with painting.

Eh, my 2 cents.

It might help if you don’t paint or texture on a sculpted layer but do it on separate layers, i.e., have one layer for sculpting, one for polypainting, one for masking and one for texturing. I haven’t used layers extensively so I could be way off on this. It’s just that it makes sense doing it this way.

If nobody paints with layers, then i don’t have so too. But I can’t paint without a layer. Then Z shows an error.
Should i merge all layers together? But what are layers for, if i can’t use them right.
Its a difficult system.

But i have 10 layers for sculpting. And use one for painting, because it letn’t me choose with the error.
