Masking issue

It’s probably nothing… but I’m not getting it…

I try to draw a mask onto the geometry (in edit mode in 3.1) and the darn thing is using the texture as mask alpha. How can I have the masking behavior as it is in ZB2? Simply paint with ctrl pressed. I try to mask an area and then inflate it with the standard brush…

Just turn off the alpha and texture. Then the mask will be a regular circle that you paint on the model. Also be sure your stroke begins ON the model. Otherwise it masks out a rectangle.

But then the texture also vanishes from my geometry… I try to mask something using the texture contents as guide. Thus the confusion…

Hey, lemo!

When I need to do what you’re trying to do I temporarily transfer the texture to polypaint data, on a low RGB percentage. However that only works because I don’t start polypainting in earnest till the sculpting’s all done.

Similarly, I often paint useful masks onto the mesh itself in black and white. the advantage is that the mask is selectable at any time and is saved with the tool from session to session, unlike masks.

Cheers,

R

Polypaint… thanks Rory_L!

That will do!
