Hey guys. Latest version of ZBrush.
Everything works fine until I use “Ctrl” and “Shift” to hide geometry. This creates a permenent mask that reappears when I later try to mask off any part of the model, even after I’ve un-hidden everything.
It makes working with inverse masks, transpose, insertbrushes and who knows how many other features impossible. Please, if you have a fix for this, let me know.
EDIT: Also, when this happens, “Mask All” only masks the portion that was hidden when I used “Ctrl” + “Shift.” Since this isn’t being reported all over, I’m guessing I’ve messed something up in preferences somewhere, but I have no idea where :(.
Edit 2: I was successful at recreating the bug with a new model. I’m going to record it and upload to YT. I really hope someone can help me fix this, it’s bringing my work to a stand-still.
Okay, for those having this issue, I may have found a work-around. If this is the way the program is supposed to work…well, all I can say is that it sure isn’t intuitive :P.
Okay, so if you’re masking function is creating and retaining makes when you use “Ctrl” + “Shift,” click “Clear” under “Masking,” then on “Visibility,” and then “Hide PT.” Click it until the part of your mesh that you originally hid becomes invisible. After that click “Show PT” and then go back to “Masking” and click “Inverse.” Now when you click “Inverse,” the entire model will mask. Then simply click “Clear” and apply a new mask as you usually would.
I have no idea why this works, but I’ve tested it thoroughly. I just used it to fix a 3 million polygon mesh that’s been suffering from this affliction for days.
