Mask by occlusion, on a test region?

Mask by occlusion takes a huge amount of time. Why is there no way to escape out of the AO bake if you want to?
A bake by region (Like what was present in ZMapper) would be great for running small test before committing to a large and time consuming AO bake.

I tried hiding a big chunk of my model but that didn’t seem to effect the time that it took to generate the bake.

Just a wish list as of right now. Unless there is a way

Calculate the ambient occlusion for a low sub div level, not high sub div. When done, step up the subdiv level and the ambient occlusion will be adjusted.

I tried this, it works but it doesn’t give you enough information when you are trying to fine tune for small features such as the eye area of a face when working on an entire body sculpt.

I haven’t tried this yet, but if I hide all of my model but a small part, clone it and then run the test on that clone, I think it might speed up the time needed to calculate. Might work?
