I am trying to create the look of a marker. But I’m not quite getting the look that I am going for. The brush doesn’t block the color on and looks a bit soft on the edges like a paint brush. How can I change that?

What is your current brush setup? Have you tried using a square alpha and adjusting the focal shift? You might want to take a look at Alpha 27 and turn your focal shift down around -70 and see how that works for you. There are also a lot of options in the Brush menu that you can play around with.
Alphas and layers opacity is probably how I would tackle that.
