Mark Alfrey DVD's? Are they good? I Want to turn blobs into masterpieces

I’m looking to study some ways of sculpting in more traditional ways because I Want to be awesome. Was just wondering what anyone thought of Mark Alfrey’s DVD’s on sculpting http://www.markalfrey.com/store.htmland whether they are any good / or would apply to sculpting in Zbrush. I’m loooking for good foundation material so I can make characters on par with the big boys. I’ve considered going to an atelier to get some rock solid skills but I’m now paying off for my technical art education loans and can’t invest in expensive courses. So if anyone has good suggestions or alternatives to becoming a great sculpture in general it would be greatly appreciated.

I want to be a great artist but I guess my issue is that I don’t really know many in person to learn from them. Go over to their dwelling and bug em. You know, Watch them make art while they toss philosophical lessons towards me and train me. I see all of this wicked art coming from some Zbrushers and know they didn’t get those skills using 3D software over night. I want to join the elite few who’s work stands out. So where should I begin?

Is there some type of training camp for artists like there are for professional fighters where they go to learn / train and become genuine bad ass’s? I’d really like to seek it out. hopefully it doesn’t require selling ones soul.

I have the one where he sculpts the bust of an old man-got it a few years ago when I was doing practical sculpture (sculpt w/clay as opposed to Zbrush) for an animatronics company and it helped my work immensly. It’s been a while since I watched it though so I can’t say how well it would translate to Zbrush.

Thanks Crotalis

If you’re actually looking to spend the money try this place: www.thegnomonworkshop.com. Some of the best guys in the industry do dvd’s for them and they have several excellent Zbrush specific DVD’s.

Here is another that may be worth considering. I haven’t seen any of the other material mentioned. So i can’t really make any comparisons. But I got a lot out of it as a beginner with Sculpey.
