manual?

Maybe someone can help us. We installed ZBrush3.5 recently and we are struggling to get it figured out.

Its seems like the tool itself does not work in a standardized way, which is fine, not saying it needs to - but it is so vastly different from other software that we really need decent docs.

But we don’t seem to be able to find documentation that shows us consistently, as new users, how to use the features. This could be because of the way it was installed or perhaps because we are missing something obvious. I’ve managed to get some help files for 3.1 downloaded…but I’m not sure how to access them.

Documentation or tutorials that we find both on this site and externally seem to just not work for us. The software also seems to be broken, different or missing bits which seem to be present in these tutorials and docs.

Anyone have any recommendations? Should we roll back a version? Should we go to 3.1 because it has better documentation? Did your install come with all the docs? Do we just slog away at it, surfing the web, using the 3.5 online help, the forums until we “get it”?

I do feel that once we get into the software we’ll love it.

Thanks,

Documentation for ZB is always a work in progress. The vast majority of the older documentation and tutorials is still relevant (and necessary), though they might reference functions that have been moved around a bit in the interface. The 3.5 documentation goes over the major changes.

3.5 TOC:

I would read it all, and do all the tutorials, even the older ones dating back to v 2 if you can find them, that deal with texturing and stuff.

The getting started vid in the classroom is also helpful:

[Edit] Also, maybe you could ask Ryan for pointers…he works with you guys and seems to be doing well with it :

Beyond that though, the most complete Zbrush training is always going to be third party.

Keep with it though…Zbrush is different, and you wont pick it up overnight. It took me a month or so of dedicated daily effort before I really started getting the most out of the program, and that was in the first half of the decade, when there wasn’t nearly as much documentation as now.

Hello

Did you do a full install of ZBrush 3.5R3. That will have a PDF tutorial and documentation installed in the ZBrush root folder.

Those are some extremely helpful PDFs

Paul

Paul, In my R3 directory, Ive got 3 PDFs…documentation on Zapp link, a tutorial PDF, and one listing the changes in 3.5. Are you saying theres more complete documentation available beyond that if I do a full install?

Ironically, I did a custom install even though I wanted all the features, because the installer documentation said that custom was recommend for some reason.

Scott

The Changes doc is what you will want to look at.
