Male Bust by: Katon

Hey Guys,
Well I am making a bust, not so original, but it is fun and a learning experience for me. Anyways, here it is so far. I am trying out some rendering in zbrush, i dont really know all that much about it. I need some help getting a nice skin shader, i messed around a bit with the sokar one, but i ended up using one of my own instead, but of course it needs help.

Also i was wondering if anyone might be able to tell me how to apply a spec map to my model, is that possible in zbrush? I can not figure out where to put one. Anyways, any crit is welcome. Thanks

Here is my color attempt

Looks fantastic. Very nice sublty in your detail.

I will say the top of the head looks a little flat/square to me… but its probably just me.

Nice work.

Something about the forehead wrinkles look weird. Not sure what, but something.

I think because the rest of it is so incredibly subtle and there is a hardness to some of the wrinkles there. Looks good though. :+1:

Thanks guys for the comments. Hopefully i wll have some updates soon, i might tone down the forehead wrinkles a touch, i will wait and see how my renders turn out.

nice sculpt, looks natural and organic. you’ve done a nice job on the nostrils and the corners of the mouth. the lips and chin have a nice feel to them. i think his right brow has some little bits that are a little sharp, kind of where the edge of the eyebrows would be on the outer side of the face. I think the ears need a little bit more work, the lobes look to be attached into the face, i’d try to get rid of that connection.

Thanks ZipZap for the comments. My friend mentioned the same thing about the right brow, i am goign to rewrok that area a bit for sure, thanks for spotting that.

Anyways hopefully i will get this up to date soon enough. I am wanting to do a ceaser type of thing and make him the leaf head dress thing ( does anyone know what those are called or have good reference for one) and then hopefully either sculpt some sort of hair or use fiber or move over to maya and use shave and cut.

Anyways, thanks for the comments, if anyone else has any crits let me know. Peace

i like the way the model is coming along. the “cesar type thing” that your looking for i think might be a crown of laurels. are you planning to do any hair on him? cant wait to see where you take it.
cheers,
Ricardo

ire alyy like the gray image render could you please post your material and light setup it would be gretly appreciated by the people at zbrushcentral thank you for your time and congrats on your beautiful head!!!

so i started screwing around with a skin shader in maya, i am using the miss fast. I dont have the hi detail on this, so it looks a bit smooth, and the sss just softens everythign so i am goign to have to figure out how to get my details to pop, and get that weight in the skin back in the render. Anyways i just thought i woudl share what i am up to. I havent been able to work on it much lately, but my friend gave me the run around on the miss fast so this is what i came up with. Crit is always welcome. oh and i am not using hdri i just put that image there so it wasnt complete black in the background.

Your skills on the lips and ears really show up on the untextured version. Amazing bro, very impressive.

Alright I was able to work on the skin a bit more, and add some eyebrows in. I dont like that glow by the nostril, i will have to get that out of there, and the eyes are temp still, i wil be making nice ones sometime soon. Let me know what you think. and crit is welcome, and i am always down for any of it, but i am mainly to the point to where i will only change skin stuff, but i might change model stuff as well.

the glow by the nostril doesnt bother me at all, actually its almost a nice fill light effect you have going there. i almost think without that light the nose would look very flat. nice work

I think this is awesome! Very nice job… and i like the eyes the way they are… dunno maybe putting more detailed ones will make it look even better but still its great as it is  :+1:

Nice attention to key detail, it makes the leap from 3d software look to realisitc interpretation.

lookin good my friend… do me a favor and stick a second fill light hitting the opposite angle of your main light to get rid of the dark line going through the face… it can be at a very low intensity but it should make the dark dissapear…

your eyes also are of different sizes and looking in different directions… even though i know you are planning on redoing them for the final render…

I’d also use the alpha channel of the render to get rid of the black background… i forgot to tell you how to pass the alpha through… and also in photoshop you can get rid of the black matte… just call me whenver and i’ll tell you how to do it…

I also dont mind the nose glow… I think its turning out really nice! Even though I keep going back and forth about the background… might be a little distracting…Its such a strong blue background that its taking away from the face… especially since the lighting doesnt really match it…

Thanks Guys i am glad you all like it.

Rich,
I will try that fill light out, do you just not like how dark the left side is? Or are you saying the shadow casting from the main light is just to strong?

yeah the eyes are all jacked, they are the same ones i had when i modeled them in zbrush, i just put and eye texture there so it would look alright, i am goign to make nice ones for sure.

yeah i was wondering why it wasnt rednering an alpha channel, i had it turned on, kind of odd, how do you get it to work? Is it a mentalray thing or something?

the background, i just put it there, that is not what i am goign to do with the final image, i just didnt feel like putting a black background thats all. But i will do something, i still havent though of exactly what i want to do.

Anyways dude, thanks for the help. I will talk to you more about this later. I miht have some time to work on this tonight. Peace

Alright here is another update, i messed with the shader a bit more, and the lights. I thinking i am starting to like my settings and now i need to move on and finalize this.

Rich hopefully you like the lighting a bit better now. Any crit is welcome. Peace

Wow, nice job! Trying a head myself, but seeing yours I know I have still a lot to learn. (knew that allready ) I really like the lighting and shader. Those eyebrows are great, how did you do those?

Alright another update. I made him some eyelashes, add a bit of color around the eyes, and added some actual spheres for eyes. now i just need to make an eye shader, that is next on my list. Oh I also changed some proportional problems, thanks to some friends pointing them out. Crit always welcome.

Plakkie for the eyeborws i pretty much took a photo grabbed the eyebrows, slapped them on my texture, edited them from there, painted some and erase so it blended alright. Just a little combo of photo/painting

I tried a little more contrast on this one, what do you guys think?

Nice one but IMHO i think you should remove some bump on the tip of nose. Theses craters remind me an alcoholic nose :p.
