Making Time For Art. Update3@Page 24, Update2@ Page 11, Update1@ Page 7

Hey what can I say

Expect the unexpected, everything else is pure speculation.

Well the time warp engine’s computer glitched

i like pixolator’s videos much better than any yt-trash…
sorry - but stop spamming this thread with yt-videos!

thanks for listening.

chem!

After watching 3 videos, I can assume

  • Zbrush 4 will let you import vector picture such as AI file and extrude from it as base mesh (first video - complicated mesh which can be sculpted by boolean feature but vector import base is more convincing.)

  • Simple animation feature which serves for showcase purposes (all videos)

  • New binding skin method which include the feature like jiggling for muscle (video 2 and 3)

  • Animation texture (video 3,you can see the texture change over time on the body of the big guy. So I assume there will be layer texture and blending mode like Photoshop. They are keyable as well).

  • Lighting intensity is keyable.

I hope I’m right cause these feature are cool.

That doom monster animation looks like it was done in Crazytalk. I hope it was because it wasnt believable.

sorry for a yt video. but this one is at least related to the most recent video.

Wow! thanks for the link I didn’t know about this program.

By the way for those that follow Siggraph there have been many Paper about image morphing so its likely that the software tech is similar and for me it was believable …this Tool in the right hands will be a WIN-WIN especially for Story-boarding!

I cant believe how narrow minded some people are (you know who you are)…
not every effect or animation is meant to believable…and not everything needs to fit neatly into some crazy predetermined idea of what production is and what these tools might be able bring BECAUSE they are not your normal Pipeline tools.

I directed this video game trailer about 4 or 5 years ago.

At about the 11 second mark there is a crazy shot of this fat corpse head doing a sort of Jacobs ladder shaky thing…I used ZB to help create the animation…in a very non conventional way…Frame by frame over painting of an image sequence in ZB…There is also some work in the flash sequences where we just did wierd things with the clients concept art…not “realistic” but creepy and interesting.

I am very interested in what new approaches to solving problems these features might bring.

Thank you for that. It lends me to something I that I teach to my youngins. The beauty of art and creation is not guessing what you have and and how to use it but understanding that it is there for you and how then to utilize your resources to achieve what you need (though the cost of time in discovery is up to your own cleverness).

My comment earlier about it not being believable was simply that. I am a huge fan of the doom games, and I feel that the art is absolutely outstanding, however I feel that adding this odd movement over top of it almost took it a step backwards. Also the yelling (and having the teeth flap around)…sorry, I am just not a fan of that. It just isn’t scary considering the context.

Keep in mind, I was just voicing my opinion. Definitely wasn’t intended to offend anyone’s work. I considered my comment hard criticism as If i were critiquing the work. I didn’t want to shun the new style of animation…I felt that it isn’t anything new and the guys at Pixologic are awesome at making tools. I just feel that this isn’t ready for Pixologic’s level of expertise.

Also, it’s a forum…no need for this =I cant believe how narrow minded some people are (you know who you are)…

For my work I can’t see anything even remotely useful in these updates. They just seem like toys to dick around with while things like the LazyMouse crash has been around for a long time and goes unfixed.

Now, before someone gets defensive and regurgitates some crap about being narrow minded, I do appreciate how it may be useful for you, but being the selfish bastard I am I couldn’t give a rat’s tush about ZBrush improving for your needs :stuck_out_tongue:

This was created from one single image? Wow, that`s VERY cool!

First off thanks for being a Doom fan  I made a good deal of the monsters for Doom 1 and 2, and my late father painted the cover for the first doom and created the logo .

Second my comment about narrow mindedness comes from hearing just that repeated over and over again in this discussion…people commenting that its not useful for production…that’s what I said when I first saw a ZB demo of 1.0, I was wrong, I was closed minded. Its not name calling.

Is the doom piece great…no…its way too long and that exposes the trick being done. but I could take that same animation, throw some post effects on it and cut it into a game trailer for a few frames and have it work as something cool and creepy.

And yes bugs need to be fixed too…
Greg

That was your dad??!?? I have extra large posters of doom 1 and doom 2!

It’s an honor man!

Punchatz: sounds like a very talented family!

Believe it or not, this discussion, so long as it is not reduced to name calling, is probably very helpful for Pixo. It is very common for companies and government to appoint a devils advocate in every meeting. Their job is to disagree no matter what. It forces you to think of all the potential pitfalls in your seemingly glorious plan. Two great examples of group think were the Columbia shuttle disaster and the Bay of Pigs. People were too afraid to voice their opinions because they contradicted the majority. Both ended in disaster. Not that this compares in scale. But the same dynamics are at play.

Bottom line, you should feel comfortable to express your opinion without fear of being belittled. Obvious exceptions would be racism etc etc…

Clappy71 and AVBN5000- Thanks- my dad was a very talented guy and so so much more, I lost him about 6 months ago:cry: I learned so much from him and miss him.

You should be able to voice your opinions, report bugs, and do this free and openly on these forums and people should be able to respond to those opinions as long as its done with respect. Forums and emails can be funny things, they don’t always convey the persons emotions or intent correctly. Some things that might be made in jest, like when I wrote “(you know who your are)” in one of my posts…that was meant to be funny…but I forgot this:) …

While you have the right to complain about your issues it would benefit if in stead of just saying something like “the interface sucks, make it like mudbox” you might describe your particular issues with the current interface or work flows so they can adapt the interface better to suit our needs.

I do wish there was a place on the forums (if there is I cant find it) where we can openly discuss bugs, work flow suggestions, future wish list stuff. Everyone benefit from this if it was done well and we would do less ranting and participate in bug squashing , feature requests and generally help Pix rather making him and the whole team frustrated when the tone of the posts become negative not constructive.

The last video is like add a final lens flare to your good design. Someone will understand that…

I will be impressed when ZBrush 3.5 or 4.0 run native 64 bit Mac

Please! Bring “Zhair” Pixo! Please, Please, Please!

We do, but it’s kinda buried here in a subforum of a subforum:http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=45137

It’s a 28 page thread that’s been going on for 3 years. Most of what is being kvetched about in this thread is in the first few pages of that thread, from '07 heh.
