So texture layers (was I the only one who noticed the color cycling?) in ZB4. That alone is awesome but then we have the possibility of other features hinted at in the video. I can hardly wait!
Look just great to me! I’m an illustrator and the whole rigging function i Zbrush seams to be fixed, a big plus for me. Keep it up!
Peace!
Agreed. First, Pixologic has forgot the main focus of this software - illustration. And turned into a sculpt software. Ok, it’s great. But now it seems they have intention to focus on animation, something that a lot of other apps make perfectly over the years… I’d prefer that the tools that stopped working, like some 2.5 brushes could come back to use, and to see bugs from previous versions fixed… But it’s just my opinion, I believe most people here are so much charmed with the video to think that my point make some sense.
ahahaha!!
I dont belive!!!
this new video is amazzing!!!
Let´s to Z4!!!
jramauri dont you think its being steadily enhanced?
I certainly am not expecting that any animation systems are the only thing in Zb4, I guess I just agree more that I think we’d all wet our pants more if we saw the things we’ve been clamouring for in video form.
Waiting for ZB 4.“x > 0” means waiting until well after Mari is out. As it is 4.0 was supposed to be out in August and now it’s been 8 months. I’m ok with waiting, but I don’t want ZB to lose market ground the way Mudbox did, especially with Mari quickly on the horizon.
Teyon, you bring up a good point. Was that texture swapping that we saw part of the texture layer system that we all want so badly, or was it something to do with the animation system… hmm… gotta go back and rewatch the clip now.
If I take anything from this it will be the simple supposition from watching the video that using Transpose to pose our zbrush creations will be more feature rich.
That’s enough for me right there as it’s in an improvement to a set of features (Transposing) that is already in the software, that in all honesty, needed some big improvements. Looks like something to look forward for me personally. Setting up a rig from the looks of it using zsphere bones might becoming a little easier and robust, allowing for faster work setting up poses than what we already have.
Bring it on I say.
Last note, don’t forget they’re not abandoning things to bring this to us. They’re adding it on top of all the other things that are coming. It’s pretty widely assumed here via reading all the comments that Pixologic is abandoning all focus on texturing and bug fixing to solely implement this idea for some crazy reason, which is just hyprebole and everyone here knows that is not the case, or should know that, being reasonable people/artists/aspiring artists I would hope or at least would expect better. Most of the people I know in my life are artists and they’re all very perceptive if a bit eccentric. Perception is actuall a common trait among artists, how can you not percieve obvious things is beyond me. They’re not going to abandon anything to provide this feature. It’s on top of what was already shown, it’s as plain as daylight, so don’t panic.
I hear alot of “but they’re going to neglect the texturing aspect to focus on animation! The sky is falling!” Where exactly did you see that? Did you just simply imply that and make a correlation? Because they’re working on one thing means they’re excluding another? Why do things have to be so black and white…mutually exclusive and whatnot? Have you not seen the videos showing us all the vast improvements and fundamental changes to texturing that are coming with this iteration? Perhaps they’ve found they wanted to provide us with even more value on top of that.
But of course, they must have totally abandoned the 3d and 2.5d and 2d focus so they can turn this into an animation app right. Please, without sounding rude, get a hold of yourselves, calm down, appreciate this for what it is. Nothing more than a teaser video showing us some more cool things coming down the pipe later. If you don’t like it, simply don’t use it. That’s all you have to do! I tried not to be rude during that post so if you take offense to those words, it’s on you entirely as they’re transmitted in a rational fashion with no offense intended.
"They’re not going to abandon anything to provide this feature."
While they are working on this they are not working on…
If you can use the new feature(s), you are a lottery winner.
If not…
Music isn’t as good either.
Figure they are saving money this year since Siggraph will be across town.
Maybe we will see something then, after all 2010 was mentioned.
First of all, I don’t think anyone is saying that the sky is falling. None of the posts I’ve read implied that anyone was freaking out.
Secondly, things ARE that black and white sometimes. Pixologic has a set number of people and a set timeframe with which to produce an update (I say that the timeframe is set because they can’t just sit around coding things without ever releasing them - some day they have to actually have a product to sell with the fancy new things in it). Given that they have a set number of people to code things, for every new feature that goes into the program that is time taken away from XYZ other things. Does that mean that XYZ don’t get any attention? No, of course not, but in the real world that’s how things work. Any time spent on one part of a project is less time spent on other aspects of the project. The key is to balancing that time so that the appropriate things get their share of time. So the comments people are making are basically “ok, an animation system is nice, but given that we don’t want ZB4 to come out in another two years, is it the right thing to dedicate time to when so many other things such as texture layers and fixing long-outstanding bugs seem more important to the end users?”
Certainly only pixologic and the beta testers know what’s really down the pipe, and that’s why no one is as doom and gloom as you claim they are. They’re simply saying that it would be nice to hear that some of these other features are addressed as well since to many people those issues are more important than animation.
Unattainable goals…Nice use of words Pixologic.
Yeah, when you don’t have a Mac version yet I guess they really are unattainable!
I bet they will and hopefully also timely for mac users.
The texture morphs in this video already look like layer blending?
No ps blend modes to see yet but it looks like theres something to come.
Did the Estate of James Brown get a royalty for the use of that song in an advertisement?
This was an awesome display of what makes Zbrush the tool of choice by all 3D artist.
I’ve been reading this post with interest and it sounds so much like previous posts discussing pixo’s product development.
Why are pixo developing an animation feature? because someone mentioned how nice it would be to have an animation feature in a previous post.
This applies to so many other features that have been suggested since the birth of ZBrush by the very people that use it. The same people that complain when pixo miss a release date.
Why do pixo post release dates but always miss them by months. Because the customer wants more features and pixo investigate the possibilities.
It seems to me that pixo are not to blame but rather we are. We’re so demanding but yet soon complain when we don’t get what we want.
Imagine taking you car to the garage and asking for a new noisy exhaust, then phoning them and asking for a set of alloys. Then your girlfriend calls them and asks for bucket seats for your Birthday. Then you call and ask if it’s ready. Then your Brother asks for a new sound system for your Birthday. Then you call to complain it’s not ready. Poor guys at the garage don’t know which way their heads are screwed on.
I think we need to be less demanding and just let pixo finish what they’ve got. Then we can bombard them with features for ZBrush 5.
How frustrating must it be for the pixo team to listen to what the customer wants and then be damned by the same customer for not releasing a product without the features the customer wanted.
I know my little theory will fall on deaf ears and these posts will continue. It’s human nature. I’m sure the pixo team will ensure current features are improved and any new features will only be included if they deem them necessary.
Finally - How can you improve such a brilliant App, frightening isn’t it…
wow !!! cant wait,
tried mudbox, pathetic by comparison,
maya, designed by loonies…
zbrush, well what can i say …loooooovvvvvveeeeee it !!!
i like the demo
So much damn complaining all the time. Sheesh…
It goes well with all of the brown-nosing that goes on.
That would be a cool feature and I can see it being really useful for 2D games like sidescrollers for instance or those pre-rendered face shots in an RPG or adventure game. Then there are animated inventory and user-interface items. Such an option would be far from useless if approached correctly. At the very least it could be a benefit for concept designers to sell their work and showcase their ideas.
Or perhaps this is the next evolution of claymation!
Well, I can only guess that since this was made using the beta of ZB4 that the Mac osx platform will not be seeing 3.5? This will not bug me so much if it is just on the horizon but I really don’t want to have to wait any longer for it.
I also hope that all the brains at pixo haven’t forgotten about paintstop—that is something else with some real potential!
awesome update … would be very useful whiten the pipeline … great video
