Making Stencil From Alpha

I have been trying to do the RustedGoldenIdol tutorial but keep getting stuck when I try to make the alpha to make a stencil. The alpha first only picked up the body and not the hands and feet. Then on another new document it would only pick up the belt, hands and feet but not the body.

What am I doing wrong/ What needs to be pressed or unpressed.

Anyone that can help me with this would be greatly appreciated.

Are the parts on different layers? If so, it may be that the grabber isn’t picking up the info from the other layers. If that’s what is happening, you’ll have to merge them before you grab (be sure that MRGB and ZADD are turned on in the Draw palette before merging!) Anybody else have an idea?

Aurick’s suggestion is correct. Hello Aurick.

If I may add one more procedure you could use: once you have all your objects created on different layers, you can select the “MRGBGrabber” tool & Unselect “Auto Crop” in the “MRGBGrabber / Modifiers” section, then you can grab all the layers into a complete Texture, after that you would select “Make Alpha” in the Texture window.

It won’t crop the main part of the image for use as an Alpha like the other procedure, but it’s an alternative method. I’ve used it before for converting an alpha to a stencil for masking or painting over another object, & it’s scalable in Stencil mode.

Have a good one . . . Mark.

To my knowledge both the MRGB and ZADD were both on when I twice had to merge layers. There is now just the background layer and the layer with the Idol. I will try for the third time to try doing over my Idol. Thanks. :frowning:

Thanks Kruzr - I will try your method and see if it works. Will let you know.

After redoing the tutorial again and making sure that ZADD and MRGB were pressed the alpha worked beautifully. Don’t know where I had gone wrong but thanks for your assistance. It worked.
