making polymesh issues.

so i have a very highly detailed mesh with uv maps etc. ive used zspheres to create a rig for the model and reposed it to my satisfaction in order to export the model i have to turn it into a polymesh, which wipes all my uv maps.
is there any way to generate a low res polymesh, and retain the uv maps generated in the neutrally posed mesh?
id LOVE some advice please.
ive considered making a polymesh out of the ridiculously overdetailed dense mesh but the zspheres deform the low res version better,
