Making Elves?

I’m pretty new to Zbrush have had it like a week or so, and just been trying to educate myself from all these wonderful tuts, from here as well as pixologic, I’m also currently working on a portfolio of digital art. in which Im going to submit to something that is irelevant in a week or so. So I’m trying to make something impecable that might cover The essentials of what I know to show the people, Such as “A human model” “Good Anatomy representation” and maybe something even out there, After reading Moochies “Easy Ear” Tut, It occured to me that if you curve them a little they make great elf ears, and since I was also kind of compelled to put some wings on one of my creations I thought, “Hey who better to make than Illidan (From warcraft 3)” So I’m currently going about attempting to create him steadily but also with haste from what time I have left before my deadline. If anyone has, perhaps done some type of Elf or has some useful knowledge or tips on how to go about making the features of one and what not, that would be very much appreciated. Well, guess that’s it. I await any reply.

(By the way, the only real anatomy I’m familiar with is from the tutorials I’ve viewed)

well im sure you not going to find an elf tutorial but elves are almost human with a slight variation so i recommend Digital Sculpting: Human Anatomy by Zack Petroc he goes really indepth about the importance of anatomy knowlege and shows you everything you need to know to get started.
I’d recommend this DVD to anyone getting into Human modeling/Zbrush.

Yeah I was basically thinking the same thing, thanks for the link

Well. the best way to make an elf (the most amusing, too), still seems to be to get hold of an female/male (it really depends:D) elf. Take her/him out to dinner… guess you can come up with the rest!

More seriously: the fun about elves is that there is NO role model. So if you can forget how Tolkien and others did put them, you can make almost anything with pointed ears and call this “ELF”.
Same goes with the proportions: how often did you wish to have another joint then only one elbow? Right!
You can really do whatever you like, maybe keep it consistent in the way of the “abnormalities” (it only is the way a human would call this).
I am sure that there are a lot of species among the elfes that have not been discovered, yet - so…!

HAHAHAHHA that made my day rofl
:+1: :+1: :+1:

And then there is Daz3d and renderosity. Practically Elf Central!
Lot’s of samples and cheep if you just wish to grab one and modify it.

Lemo

Well, Lemo - that is how it always ends: I do a serious post >> everbody has a good time with it // I say something terribly funny >> threads get closed (in some places;)).

Other then that: did you know that elfes (female’s) do not only have pointed ears, but …??
How do I know?
Well, just do not ask!

EDIT:

“Brian Froud” would be another first hand source of all about the Fae. Not strictly elfes, but I think his work is a must see if you are about to venture off into the land of imagination.

Found one (male or female??)

You are a very lucky one!!
This (it is a femmaler) exemplar is the most sought after Elf on this world!
“Lucky” - first because you had the chance to take a shoot at it, second because this one is terrific dangerous (and you seem to be undamaged;))!
He is - most of the time - mimicking a smart kind of being (faking to be able to read AND write, among other things it is making up), while in truth it will sneak up from behind and bite off your ears, just because they are missing the point!
The only good thing concerning this being: it is near to extinct, all you need is some time to make sure it will not do any harm to anybody. Not on this world, not on any other.

Haha!! brilliant, Zaphod

As my monitor’s ‘gone’ and I’m hiding behind a 15 inch ‘borrowed’ thingy
(with almost no graphics card atm (damn recent hot weather spell blew
my systems Mo’board, fans and card!)
But here’s an ‘Elf’(body)and an ‘ElfHead’ ZTLs I dug up as a compromise -
the ears can be constructed as a 6-point quad base, as I remember btw)

Thank you very much, Atwooki - but as I mentioned earlier, I tend to make elfes the more oldfashioned way.

But I am sure that Prospect will find this even more helpful!

Sometimes it is very nice, being here!

Yeah - you’re right… there IS no point of reference in these matters of
design (limits being your own imagination, of course!) however in the ‘elvine’
world throwing the odd ZTL to the wind never did me any harm (yet!!)
and if rotating them in ZB (or other) helps, all the better

Lemo

Yeah I’ll try my best, to see what I can pull off hehe
