Making a hooded robe?

Hi, I am relatively new to zbrush and I am currently working on sculpture of a character that is going to be wearing a hooded robe, and the hood is going to have holes for the character’s ears to pop out of. I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to a good way to make the robe and hood. Should i do the pieces separately, or would it even be easier to try to make it in another program, such as Maya and then import into zbrush?

Thank you for any input.

It seems like mesh extraction would be a great place to start:

Move the hood around some to get the right shape then I would probably retopo for better sculpting.

I ended up using zspheres and then zsketched it over my character then using primarily the move tool and pinch tool I got it to come out looking very nice.
