Makhila

Today I made some illustrations for a book about canes. Makhilas are weapon canes from the mountainous Basque region between France and Spain. They are used as a hand spear. All ZBrush with postwork in Photoshop.

WOW! That is a beauty!
Lemo

nice work. well done.

Very nice…the metal part look very realistic

Nicely illustrated. I like the deer and knight especially.:+1:

Was the knight drawn and then projection mastered as an alpha channel onto
the metal or was it sculpted like a relief?

Very nicely done as usual.

Word

i really like the medieval knight, too!

Im
The knight was drawn in outline first. After making an alpha, I used a stencil, and projected it at the plane.
The deer was painted in black and white colors. Light colors for the highest points and dark for the lowest. I used the alpha for making a 3d object.

Thanks, Bas. That’s a clever use of stencil and alphas.

The way the metal conforms to the shape of the wooden staff down to the tiny nails/pins that hold them in place…well thought out.

The fine detail in the metals is just fantastic…

Here some pages of the book and another illustration
