Make Active Subtool Transparent

Is there a way to make the active subtool transparent so that I can easily see its thickness as I sculpt? I am making a hat and trying to hollow out the inside but it’s difficult to see how thick the hat is.

I tried the transparency button but this only effects transparency between different subtools - not what I’m looking for.

I tried adjusting the opacity slider for the martial but this doesn’t seem to effect transparency until render time.

Any suggestions?

If I am understanding your question correctly try the Ghost button just below the Transparency button.

Cheers!

Almost but not quite. It looks like ghost still only effects the inactive subtools. I need to make the active subtool transparent.

I am trying to make a top hat shape with thin walls and when I try to hollow out the inner cavity it’s very difficult to keep the inner wall from punching through to the other side. If the model was slightly transparent I would be able to gauge the wall thickness as I work and avoid this problem. Or is there a better approach?

Thanks

GRIN!
My way of doing what you are describing is to prevent the viewer from ever seeing the inside of the hat, that way they dont know its not hollow… Or that I still have not figured out how to make very thin stuff with out poking holes…
What I think turning Ghost off does is make everything transparent but I could be wrong about that, I still have not mastered subtools yet (or anything else for that matter)

One question however: have you tried using the mesh insert/extract tools?
It seems to me that if you make a mesh insert brush of the hat you could insert it with the alt key down into it self (and if you are far far far better at mesh insert then I am) you should be able to remove the inside exactly in the shape of the outside… Personally this is beyond my ability, but if you are able to work with mesh insert and do things like change its size and shape it should work great.
