Mahjongg Tileset (121 Welcome)

This was a little project I was occupied with the past few days. I had decided to make a custom tile set which would be compatible with Mahjongg Master 4 or Kyodai Mahjongg (http://www.kyodai.com). This might be compatible with Mahjongg Master 3 and a few other Mahjongg programs as well, but I haven’t tried it out with those.

I had tried to go for a sort of “carved jade” look.

For the dots tiles I had created a multi-marked polymesh object with a cylinder using radius to create the hole in the middle and alpha masked using columns to deform it and I placed a sphere in the middle. For the “bamboo” tiles I used a cylinder which was deformed using radial symmetry as well as a columns alpha mask. For the lettering and numbers I used Elefont and the font I used was Ray Larabie’s “Baby Jeepers” font.

For the “seasons” tiles, the flower was created from a multi-marked polymesh object, the sun was created from a gear and a sphere. The leaf was first done by drawing the veins using the Zsphere tool and then I put a disc behind it and pushed and pulled parts of the disk into a leaf shape and then I MRGBZ grabbed that and then I pressed “Make3D” from the resulting alpha. I had picked up a leaf from outside for reference. The snowflake was a ZSphere tool.

The flowers were made using Gear3D tools and spheres. For the orchid I used a deformed sphere for the top leaf and an elongated and bent torus using a coverage of 180 for the lip.

The Kanji character for the “Green Dragon” tile was made from a ZSphere as well as for the “Red Dragon” tile. A ZSphere was used for the square part of the “White Dragon” tile and the rectangle in the middle was made with the cube3d.

The gold frames around the tiles were made with cylinders with SH set to “4” and SH smoothing switched “off” and a wide inner radius.

Sorry for the long description .

If you have the game you can just download it into your tileset directory and load it in from the tileset menu.

As always 121 welcome.

Wow, these are really cool! Now you can use these in the actual game? Very nice colors and shadowing!

Absolutely gorgeous, looks like jade too! I would definately love a set to play with when it is finished! Where do you DL it?
As for the 121, everything is awesome!
The only thing I would say would be that I know jade has a slight variation in color, but slightly, like light hues of cloudy green. And maybe a little bit of spectral…just alittle.

MTB, to download the tileset you can just right click on the image and select “Save Target As”. The image is already formatted to be compatible with Mahjongg Master or Kyodai Mahjonng.

A demo of Kyodai Mahjongg can be downloaded from http://www.kyodai.com.

I did have some noise in the material, but maybe I under-emphasized it a little too much.

The thing very amazing is the impression of depth at the screen resulting between the “green” composant of drawings and the “frame”("red"composant) .
When the physic of the electron meet the visual Art
Beautiful modeling !
Tiles of Mahjongg seem open boxes !
Pilou

You know what, now that i have it DL’ed and can see it without my crappy dialup jpg compression, Looks beautiful!!!
Even that small spectural that I couldn’t see blush
Great job WingedOne!
:+1: :+1: :+1:

This is so very cool!

Thank you WingedOne, for the link to this awesome version of one of my absolute favorite games!

By the way, i like your tile set better than any that come with it :+1: :sunglasses: :+1:

A beautiful set of tiles. :+1: :+1: :+1:

I tweaked the contrast and noise settings a little bit. The contrast in the previous one seemed a little low for me and the noise in the previous one one just a little too subtle in my opinion.

Plus, I moved the “Green Dragon” symbol so it was centered a little better in the tile. It was a minor detail, but it was driving me nuts.

Sorry about the large file size (about 172k), any more compressed than this, and it starts to lose a lot of detail. I guess because I used so much of one color.

I LOVE IT! I am playing Kyodai with it and it looks beautiful!!!

This is very nice W.O.Do I see BabyJeepers
font in there?

Hi - I’m a newbie here - just got ZBrush 1.51 the other day, and Kyodai is one of my favorite games, so I was interested to see that somebody did a tileset with ZBrush.

Nice job, Winged One! I’m also glad you posted details on what tools and techniques you used while making the set.

The only thing that might be added is a little bit of specular highlight, but that’s really just icing on the cake. The jade look is very nice, and the modeling is nicely detailed, especially on the bamboo and the seasons tiles.

Thanks for posting this!

Nice stuff WingedOne, and welcome to the forum PixelDust

beautifully realized. Exquisite!

I agree with all the above… I bet they look great in the games!! Excellent modeling, overall work and a very convincing jade mat! Beautiful work!
Michael

Just to say thank you for the link as well as the tiles. I downloaded the game last night - excellent version. :+1:

Rhom, yes, I used the Baby Jeepers font (Cool font, BTW). It was mentioned in the description of how it was put together.

Sorry I took so long to answer your question, I missed your question the first time around.
