Mahishasura is a Sanskrit word composed of mahisha meaning buffalo
and asura meaning demon, or “buffalo demon”. As an Asura

He was ultimately killed by Goddess Durga getting named Mahishasuramardini.
It is an important symbolic legend in Hindu mythology
