Macbook Pro + zBrush 3.12 = overheating

Hello. My first post… Kinda of technical one…
When I start sculpting on my macbook pro machine, in just few seconds processor temp reaches 76-82˚, and it’s while working with relatively simple meshes (sphere with 4 subd levels).
It’s newer model (3rd generation) and there is no similar situations while working in other software (maya, after eff…)
So I just wanted to ask if anyone experienced this and is there, maybe, some good advice on this matter.

specs:
Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Video: GeForce 8600M GT, 128mb

Thanks,

dj.

I’m running ZB3.12 on my ‘early 2008’ MBP (2.5GHz, 4GB Ram, 15") and temps seem fine. I haven’t really been monitoring the temperatures to be honest, but remember a figure somewhere in the mid 70ºC with the fans slightly elevated above the default 2000RPM.

Keep in mind that ZBrush uses the CPU quite substantially not only for the sculpting bits, but also for displaying the 3D content when navigating around the Ztools.
Maya (and most other 3D apps) on the other hand offloads the majority of it’s 3D displaying operations to your GPU, an entirely different part of your MBP, which could account for the disparity you’re seeing.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

yeah.
I guess I’ll just ignore it… Hope it won’t get too hot.

Thanks for replying.

Get Fan Control or smcFanControl

To made the Macbook Pro silent, Apple raised up the Fan activation treshold, if u don’t mind a bit of noise, install Fan Control and adjust the tresholds to whatever u like

Edit : Mine seems to stay under 70°C With Fans at around 4K rpm

I keep my notebook on a fan plate. ZB tends to work the processor.
