Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

This is from May 1st… 3 and a half months and we are told it will still be next quarter. This is my complaint. We need info we can trust (videos, screenshots, beta versions) not just a post saying we will have something in a few months… they told us that a few months ago!

I’m a small setup, self employed 3D artist/designer. My biggest purchase 2 and a half years ago was my Mac G5 Quad (4300 Euros). I am still paying back the bank loan for that. I’m incredibly disappointed to say the least, and I really could do with that refund right now.

Thanks Aurick (Matthew) for the info…you have a thankless job in general where your the face of decisions and information other ppl choose to make available. I’m looking forward to finally using all the power of my mac pro. Surprised its another free upgrade… i dont think the Mac user base would stomach paying for 3.5 and were promised 3. I guess it would be too difficult to charge one group and not another. Anyways good stuff… looking forward to more info after Sigg, and hoping its an October release… the worst is over.

The worst is over??
Are you kidding??

that’s a bummer it’s not available sooner. well, on the bright side, it’ll give people a great opportunity to practice their hard surface modeling skills!

We have heard this before many times and again it is only a posting by Aurick as of yet it has not been posted on the Pixo web site.
Remember we were told that a release date would be announced after the PC 3.0 was released.
Then the PC version went to 3.0
Then it was unofficial upgrades and in February Beta testing was starting.
There was problems with the PC version and they were told that they would have to wait until after the Mac version was released.

Remember the tale of the boy who cried wolf?

I have read the tales of upgrades prior to me buying the product and the track record of on time upgrades makes me wonder what year it will be released.

I upgraded to a Mac Pro two years ago and I have not been able to have full use of 3.0 or even 2.0. And I don’t have high hopes for 3.5.

The worst isn’t over until after the sort of nutters prevalent in this thread build themselves into some political apparatus and stop dropping bombs.

For Aurick it is… with this official information, as accurate a release date as Pixologic ever gives, and more info… and perhaps movies coming soon that should pacify the majority of people with pitchforks and torches. Not everyone. But a lot.

I feel your pain. The first Mac I ever bought was a Mac clone from Power Computing. Bought it mostly on credit. Took me years to pay for it. Anyone remember Power Computing? About a month after I bought it, Apple put an abrupt end to the clone war. Power Computing, who’s clones rivaled Apple’s own, just seemed to vanish overnight. Phhht! Gone. (Though, I think they still exist in some form.)

Also, I ran out a few months ago to buy a new Mactel, and sold my G5 in anticipation of ZBrush coming out long before December. I also had to spend tons of dough on upgrading all my old applications to run on my new machine.
Not sure if I can run Z2 on the new machine, so I’m between a rock and a hard place in that regard. It’s all just one big crap shoot.

I think if this would have been announced before SIGGRAPH, it would have avoided all of us hoping for something coming out of SIGGRAPH and feeling lead around by the nose.

I would disagree with whoever said Siggraph was the time and place to release the goods. Of course it would be nice if they did. By and large, though, I think most people go to Siggraph to learn, and to celebrate a little too. As for launching new product that week, it would make for a fun day if you can, but it’s an arbitrary date in the development cycle. It would be a marketing race to the bottom getting on that train.

Mixed metaphors aside, I do agree with whoever said we whipped ourselves into a frenzy thinking we were on the eve of something earth-shattering. Not to excuse the captors of our long-awaited prize, but we were hoping to see an end to this, and we got disappointed. So how about a more measured approach from now on? Just for the sake of our own personal mental health. Accept that this may never play out the way you want. Or that the Mighty Pixolator will end our suffering and open The Vault. Nahhh.

We’re either going to get the thing or we’re not, and either way we’ll be okay with it. Your art is much bigger than one little company, right? Life will find a way to go on.

blah blah blah. I feel for you guys who purchased ZB at 3.0-3.1 and can’t use it, but for those of you around earlier I hope you aren’t complaining! They have given out free updates to this program for years while every other company charges an arm and a leg! And they are usually very significant upgrades to the program!

To be honest, did I really expect any less from Pixologic? I guess not. I suppose they feel they’ve said enough for now. I do feel it is good news though compared to what we knew this time last week, which was JACK SH*T! Aurick’s news thread does say a bigger announcement will follow Siggraph with more info. I’m hoping this will include videos and exact detailing of the new features, along with much more concrete news for us unfortunate mac users.

PS. What the f*ck happened to the goodies and surprises the mac users were supposed to receive? We’re not getting any more than the PC guys. Less in fact cos we’ve missed out on 2 updates

Thanks for the info, Aurick!

Blah blah blah to you too.
I can and will complain. I bought ZB @ v2 with the promise of an upgrade to v2.5. I have since upgraded my mac and haven’t been able to use it for sometime now. So, I never received any “free” update what so ever. They suck. Plain and simple.

Patience is a virtue.

For every problem, there’s a MEL script.

If at first you don’t succeed, use Shake. For some reason that always works. The damn thing’s like magic.

even the date for the “announcement after siggraph” is sketchy, could be hours, days, weeks, right before its released…

Hey! Some official freakin’ news! Nice!

3.5
Santa’s involved somehow
free for all
DUAL PLATFORM RELEASE! That’s the best part of it.

While, the waiting game sucks, looking towards the future of dealing with this company on Mac, this is a great sign for years to come. It’s a great sign that all releases from here on out will be unified. I doubt, after their dead silence as a result of the delay, that they’ll miss whatever date they pick.

Can’t wait to hear the end-of-siggraph announcement about the new features. When they threw the “upcoming months” into the quote, it makes me think we won’t hear about the “revolutionary” new thing that’s going to make it all worth the wait until the end of the year. That’s the one new feature I want to hear about…

I’m also like you, just frustrated, but I have no choice… and for me its even more harder because I need to change my Mac, by the way…

It will be hell in my wallet and I’m happy that they speak to the mac community, thank you Mr Pixologic (In Pixologic, there’s logic isn’it)

See ya Bucky and others old Zbrushers
