Low res export to Photoshop CS3

Hi everyone,

I’m new to CG and ZBrush and have what I’m sure is a basic question. I’ve loaded two tools (obj files) and created a new two part tool. The obj’s are from a 3D laser scanner. They’re high quality and as sharp as a tack in ZBrush (~500k polys). I positioned the new tool, rendered it (best) then exported the doc as a psd file. But when I open it in CS3 the resolution is very low. My end use is a 2D illustration for print so I need it to be sharp.

I’m working in Parallels. I have Photoshop CS3 for Mac only. So once I save the psd document to the windows desktop within Parallels, I drag and drop it on the Mac desktop, then open it through Mac Photoshop. Could that be degrading the resolution in some way?

Do I need to define the resolution of an export before exporting?

Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong or what i might try would be greatly appreciated.

Are there any tutorials of workflows from ZBrush to Photoshop for print use?

Thanks,

David

Resize your document before you draw the model on the canvas. This is done using the Document palette. Maximum allowable size is 8000. After drawing and rendering your document, press the AAHalf button on the right shelf. This resizes the display to half size, and gives a special antialiased view of the canvas. (So your document should be twice the size you’ll be exporting.) Now export your document.

The dpi will always be 72.

Aurick,

Thanks for the reply, but I must be doing something wrong. I created a new document at max size of 8000. Drew my model on the canvas, rendered it, pressed AAHalf, then exported a psd file. When I opened it in PS CS3 the resulting file is 506 k, 6.6" x 5" at 72 ppi. ZBrush must be capable of better resolution or nothing produced in the program would ever make it to print. I need roughly that size at 300 ppi.

Can it be done? What am I missing?

Thanks,

David

Hi I’ev tried a few things, but I still have the best results with Lg. doc in ZB2.5, applink toCS2, 300dpi and Reduce about 40% both at Bicubic smoother.
Hope thats in the correct direction.
