low poly weapon

Hi Im working on a Weapon for Dota 2 for the first time, for that the model have to be very low polycount (500), i was trying alot to get clean large topology on the blade to keep polys for higher detailed areas but i dont get it
so my question is how can i change the topology of the model the way i want it if thats possible
some tips for modeling low poly weapons or armor are welcome too I couldnt find tutorials about that

ZRemesher is your friend to reduce point count. Hidden areas, unaffected, masked areas same. Paint to influence point count in various areas. Must be a video up by now.
