lots of dispaly / color - issues or bugs?

hi

what i do : bring in my model via obj create a new texture (white) turn texture OFF set the material to flat color deactivate zadd pick a color and paint the model is clear white and i can see the proper representation of my colors ( not blended with the color of the material ) but when i set my color to BLACK and rotate the view , the model which was white turns red ( red mat cap material ) when i change the color to something else and rotate the cam . the model turns white again whats up with this ? why does zbrush change the models display color when i set my color i wanna paint with to BLACK (RGB 000 ) ? bug ? feature ? edit : seems like theres more to it the mat caps color is changing as well but i dont really wanna do that , i just wanna change the color iam painting with and in the end iam ending up with wrong colors i cant even paint BLACK .. it kinda blends in with something else and looks like gray -> how exactly do i change my models color ? -> how exactly do i change my current mat-cap color ?

im not getting it… sometimes im changing the models color and sometimes its the model but the materials color remains same and or changes at will

-> why is my model RED when i set its color to BLACK and the mat cap to FLAT COLOR (white)
just confirmed this ->
RGB 0 0 0 shows up as RED
RGB 2 2 2 shows up as BLACK ( more black then RGB 000 )

setting the color picker to BLACK makes zbrush switch to red ( color picker thing sets itself to the lower left corner RGB = 000)

:qu:

That’s just the nature of Materials and MatCaps, they have a specific hue built in to them. Any color you paint is going to appear as a mix between the native matcap color and your paint color, kind of like the Screen blend mode in Photoshop. If you want to see the true hues that you’re painting, use the FlatColor material. It best represents what you’re texture map will look like when you export it.

holy crap!!! that is a lot of questions…so I’ll just answer the first.

BLACK (0,0,0) is seen as an alpha in Zbrush. so rather than make an entire object black, it displays it as that horrible red wax material.

anyway, never use black. and if you do, fill the object with a color before you start painting. select a color (anything other than 0,0,0) then go to
color>fill object (make sure rgb or mrgb is turned on)

then go to any color and paint away. (tool>texture>colorize) also needs to be on as well (filling an object turns this on by default).

hope that helps on the color issue. good luck on the other things
