loosing texture detail

Hi
what am I doing wrong? I made a texture in PhotoShop and imported it into Zbrush4. The Object has a uv map of 4k and is about 2million polys. The texture looks fine. But if I use “polypaint from texture” to alter the imported one, I always loos all the detail of the texture. It looks like I am using a texture in 100x100 pixel size :o(

What should I do, to get a more detailed look of the texture?
Same problem happened with spotlight.

I am afraid I missed something.
Thanks for any help!!!
Best regards
Hilmar

Two million polygons is not maybe enough for high resolution polypaint.
I would recommend subdividing your object more.
I often do 10 million and even it’s not enough if I have to do close up shots of complicated objects.

HI yaschan
thanks for your reply.
How is your workflow for a character with cloth and armor?
The cloth for example shares one 4k uv map but consists of different subtools (jacket, trousers, shoes…) If I have to crank each subtool to 10mio to polypaint, will not Zbrush crash? Or do I have to attache them to one piece and then use polygroups?
Or another example: I have a box with 50 cans in it. If I want to texture the cans now, do I have to seperate them for texturing to get 10mio for each piece/can? I guess the only thing I will use later to render in MAX is the exported texture, right?
Thanks for your help!

For me I haven’t experienced crashing when working within the ZBrush’s normal geometry limit even with subtools.
HD geometry keeps crashing for me however.

Perhaps you should try out what works for you best?
