Looking for Help with Straight Edges and Surfaces

Hey guys, this might be the last thing I need help with to finally get back to work!

My frustrations:

I want to be able to draw a straight edge or make an edge on a “mound” or shape that’s already been made on a plane. Example: I’m trying to make Armor. So the Armor shape is 1/4th a circle. On the surface of that 1/4th Circle I simple want to make a “ledge” or “surface that juts out” with a Sharp clean edge. How do I “FREEHAND” this? I’ve seen many people use a brush that smoothes the surface out, but when I use these brushes I keep getting edges that have (I don’t know how to explain it) little mounds or hills. I just want to be able to draw a straight line and have a clean sharp edge.

And lastly, does anyone know a good, clean, tutorial for making hard surfaces? I’ve checked on youtube but they all assume you know “all” the brushes already. I’ve heard Dam_Standard and HPolish are really good for hard surfacing, but I have no idea how to “draw” clean straight edges. Any help would be perfect!

Thanks!

You could use slice curve to cut your mesh and delete the part you don’t want, you could mask with an alpha the right shape and extrude it. I’d recommend reading some more. There are some hard surface tutorials, possibly on the Pixologic website. There could be several ways to achieve your end goal, some may be faster, easier and or better.
