Looking for a tutorial on smooth edging & fine detail on clothing/armor & mech armor

Hi! I’m currently using ZB 4r2. & I’m looking for a video tutorial on fine detailing on clothing/armor/mech armor. & trying to
get help on doing sharper/smoother edges. If anyone can help, please let me know…

Also wanting help on lightening up the shadow cast. To give a more authentic look for the time of the day. Like how the sun/moon is casting
the light.

Thank You! That helped alot. I’ve seen alot of pics of different models with mech armor, robotic models. Loads of sharp/smooth edges. & when I try to get the sharp edges, Like when I use easy brush with masking, pinching some of the areas. I get alot of pixeladed edges. I’m not sure if its just my vid card or if its just my poor skills in zbrush. But I’m trying…
Or maybe its just a matter of practice makes perfect.

Hiya,
I think what you need to do is go to your lowest sub div level and have a look at the poly frame of your model. Unless u have a stupidly high number of Poly’s like 12mil + for instance, you will need to have your polygon topology follow where you would like to have hard edges. I.e the edge of your polys should flow round the shape of our character then you can use things like ‘crease’ in conjunction with polygroups to get those nice crisp hard edges you are after  and if they are too sharp u can increase and subdivide or just smooth with the smooth brushes. Hope that helps I appear to have gone on a little bit Lol

Mike Jensen has two video tutorials being sold at Eatc3D that might be what you need.
Here’s a YouTube short on one of those tutorials.

And here’s the Eat 3D site. The Jensen tuts are the two on the right end of the top row.

He has a few YouTube videos too but not sure those will help as much for your needs.

Good Luck.

Thanks Guys. Helped alot. & as far as my poly ct. I always try to stay around 525k up to right over 1 mil. & sometimes alittle over 2 million. But I alway lag up when i get over 3-4 million poly. & anything over 5 million, zbrush always crashes. So like I said. I try & stay in the range of 525k to 2 million… But those videos helped on eat3d. I’ve bought a couple videos from there. & thanks again…
