Look for New Computer -Help with Specs

I want to go mobile so I’m looking into a Dell M90 workstation Laptop to replace my aging Desktop which is a 1.8 P4, with 768 Ram, ATI radeon 9800 256Meg

Here are the specs:

XP - 64 Bit (Let me know if anyone is using this and if they’ve had problems with Maya, Max, Z-Brush, Photoshop etc…)

  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7200 2.00 GHZ
  • 4 Gigs DDR2-533 SDRAM
  • NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M, 512MB
  • 80 Gig Hard Drive (7200 RPM’s)

If you have one of these how do you like it and what kind of performance have you noticed?

My biggest concern is the XP 64 bit operating system and if it has glitches with these packages. I don’t want to wait for Vista and it will probably be glitchy for awhile when released anyhow. I do want the extra ram as I recall 32 bit operating systems can’t use more then 2 gigs of ram anyhow.

Let me know thanks!

nice rig you have, as far as i know, but zbrush don’t work on 4gb ram, limited to 2gb ram.:td: …or someone knows how to get zbrush to work on 4gb would be good…

Hi!

I would advise against buying new rig just now. We are on the verge of the clash of the titans. Intel introduced its quad cores recently and the market awaits AMD’s response. It would be wise towait and see what will arise when the dustsettles.

For Z-Brush doesn’t it come more down to the Video Card?

I have a quad Processor at the office but its running on 32bit so it’s not that impressive with polygons. It also has a mediocre quadro card they set me up with.

im running a 2.7mil poly model decently with 1.5gig ram on a 2.2ghz cpu.
2 gigs ram in my opinion is plenty, save the extra 200 bucks. as for video card, they arnt overly expensive, get a 200$ card or so and that should be fine.

Other than Zmapper (OpenGL), Zbrush runs only using the CPU. Wait until Pixologic releases the new version of ZBrush before purchasing…Who know’s what the specs will be.
