Look Deep Into My Eyes . . .

split personality here: my lazy part looks forward to simply apply this fantastico textures and my curious one wants to know the how-to-do’s and some more of your (photoshop and other) insights  so: my ditto’s to what Stacey & Digits said!

TIA

Kruzr,

Very, very nice. :+1: :+1: Yes, I would love to see how you made such a natural iris. Btw, since you went through all the work, which allows me to put forth minimum effort, I thought I’d augment your already fabulous eyes. For all of those aspiring illustrators of a realistic style (or those who simply want piercing eyballs) it pays to know a little about anatomy. The iris is actually slightly concaved with the cornea bulging over it. This, depending on the angle of light, creates a shadow on the iris in the very same place as the highlight (or hot spot). On the other side, the iris will “catch” more light.

Using a part of Kruzr’s image, in Photoshop I used the Dodge and Burn tools to add shadow and light.

Can you tell which one?
By dodging and burning you do not paint over the texture and you give the eye added depth.

thanks again Kruzr!

Adman

That’s a great tip, thank’s Adman!

BTW, it was the center one you did the dodge & burn to.

‘Morning Adman . . .

You are correct with your explanation of the “Dodge & Burn” tools in PhotoShop.

Another way of achieving realism to an “Eye Ball” in Zbrush, it to use the “ToyPlastic” Material for the whole object using “ColorFill”, then “Mask” the area around the cornea & use the “GelShaderA” Material to paint on the cornea itself, thus giving a more transparent & in-depth appearance to it. ( Image Below )

Thanks for the info Adman & have a good one . . . Mark.

the reson i ponted out that im not a little boy wuz that kruzr somewere said that i sent a threating e-mail and i did nt remember doing that i dont remember were he posted it it mite have been a e-mail he sent me i dont really remember

LOL!
Please, DOM, don’t leave! I’ve haven’t even used ZBrush yet, and this is the funniest bulletin board i’ve ever seen! At least donate some sperm to the ‘bulletin board punching bag sperm bank’ before you leave!

cool stuff, too.

Kruzr,

Hmmm… I’m going to have to experiment with that one. Looks great! thanks.

Adman . . .

When I do my eyes, I use the Sphere3D divided to the max, rotate it 90 on the X axis, after drawing it & applying the eye texture, I then use the “Tool / Modifiers / Texture / TXR>COL” to color the polys, then I can remove the texture. I select the “ToyPlastic” Material, then I use the “Fill Object” with only the “Draw / M” button selected so as to fill the object with Material only, that way I can use the GelShaderA material to paint over top of the ToyPlastic material on the cornea.

I’m sure your aware of all this information, I thought I’d throw it your way just in case???

Let me know what you think & have a good one . . . Mark.

Personally, I prefer using the Tourmaline material for the cornea/iris/pupil. It’s not in the default material list, but it’s in the ZMaterials folder that comes bundled with ZBrush.

The info will come in handy, since I love making characters with those big, shiny anime-style eyes.

Kruzr,

I try do be unaware of as much information as possible.

I haven’t even begun to experiment with textures/materials as much as most of the people here at ZBC, so any details are always appreciated.

WingedOne, thanks for the tip. I’ll give that a try as well.

Adman

I’ll have to give this a try using the GIMP sometime, being that I can’t afford Photoshop right now.

Hi Y’all,
This forum is the most dynamic, fun, unpredictable, wacky, zany, madcap, forum I could ever imagine. Not to mention useful. You’ve all got me completely bamboozled, I can’t tell if you’re serious or just plain crazy, or having a larf or what.

Hey kathy, do you wear a skirt made of chopped off baby arms or what?

I sure as hell hope I never get you angry.

thelonious

Well my first post. The eyes are so great. I d/l the tut. but to show how new I am at this, I can’t make the circles. There must be something you all do that comes naturally. I get the sphere, but how do you draw the circles for the iris etc. :qu: I wish I had a tutor lol. You all are so advanced  Also second :qu: How do you paint the little features on things without going out of the lines  Thanks for putting up with a virtual num-nut

For me, since I didn’t use Photoshop, I turned on radial symmetry which is found in the modifiers sub-pallette in the tool pallette. That way, you’ll get the round circles for the pupil and iris.

Here’s my eye:

I have a “Light” version of Photoshop that came with my Wacom that I tried to use, but didn’t figure out how to do the eye texture with that yet. I still need to go over Kruzr’s Tutorial.

NOTE: I used the Tourmaline material for this and didn’t do any dodge & burn. I used the blur brush after baking the layer to blend the boundary of materials between the eyeball and the cornea.

I used 3D copy so I could paint a higher resolution texture.

For some reason, I seem to be partial to purple eyes.

I tried going through Kruzr’s tutorial, but my “light” version of Photoshop doesn’t have an “edit” button in the gradient fill tool. I’ll have to consider another way of doing it with my light version. :frowning:

'Morning WingedOne . . .

Nice looking eyeball!

“I’ll have to consider another way of doing it with my light version.” WingedOne, if you go back to my “Eye Texture” Tutorial, on the 1st page - 4th post from the bottom, you’ll find a post from “Kaz” which describes an alternative procedure of creating the texture, for those who don’t have a “Radial Blur” in their software. It works quite well. I gave it a try in PaintShopPro & it looked just as good as with a Radial Blur.

Good Luck & have a good one . . . Mark.

Thank’s Kruzr. I’ll have to try out Kaz’s technique sometime.

On a side note, I remember when I was a kid, I sat in front of a mirror shining a pen light near my eye (note: not IN my eye) and watching my iris expand and contract. After a few minutes of this, it really began to creep me out.

Winged!! I did the SAME thing! It was so cool to see it happen…I thought I was the only one…

 me too

'Afternoon all . . .

Something must be wrong on this end, when I shine a light into either of my eyes, you can see a beam of light coming out of both of my ears???

Does that mean something is wrong with my eyes??? :frowning:  Heheheh.

Have a good one . . . Mark.
