lonely waiting for help- ZBrush 4 crashing- suggestions?

If this is not in the correct spot on this forum, let me apologize in advance.
I’m having problems with zbrush crashing- So I have posted this on the zbrush forum in hopes of getting a reply.

My system ( more than you need, but I copy and paste this to all of my questions)

Mac Pro Mac OS X 10.6.4
2 x3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon
12 GB 667 MH DDR2 FB-DIMM
NOW using ATI radeon 4870
quadro fx 4800
Dual displays
20 " display
20" Cintiq tablet

Z brush 4 memory preference settings.

compact mem 4096
doc undo4
tool undo
4
max poly permesh 15.85
HD Preview maxpoly 7.92

I have been saving the file as I go along and the one pictures here is number 11. I can’t open 12 which has many more leaves without crashing.

Trying to open it it says, Sorry this action could not be completed Seccessfuly( yes, the program has misspelled the word) due to insufficient amount of system memory ( RAM) I am wondering if I need to allocate memory within the apple system. I’m guessing here.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys,

Bridgette

FYI 64 bit.

Spoke to apple and they said there is no longer an option of allocating ram to programs since 10. So I am depending on you guys. Thanks. Also I am not sure why I can’t open up what I was doing last night. It saying insufficient memory. I created this in zbrush, so Why won’t it open it?

It sounds like you simply exceeded what can be done with a single model. Try breaking your model into multiple SubTools or using HD subdivision levels. This will make a big difference.

is it possible to open it. I worked on it yesterday, but can’t get the latest version to open. Just get that same reply. Seems strange that with 12 Gb I would run out of RAM

Even though you have 12Gb RAM, ZBrush can only use a maximum of 4Gb, even on a 64 bit OS. Your best bet is to do like aurick suggested and break up your meshes into multiple subtools. Looks like you might have to revert back to #11 and redo.
