Locking views?

I was just wondering if it was possible to ‘lock’ certain views so you can’t accidently rotate your object while working on something delicate.

If not, I think it would be a great feature for the next version of Zbrush. You could have a button which can lock your current view but you would be able to click buttons to get various standard views such as front/back, left/right and top/bottom, too.

Maybe there is such a feature and I’ve missed it?

Good idea, I like it!

You can snap to a view by holding the Shift key while you rotate. But you can’t lock the model to keep it from turning.

aurick, is that true, cause many times at least since 3.0 i’ve had models lock to one axis when i shift click them, i don’t know how it happens and the normal rotation no longer works, scale does however, eventually i can get them loose by having to exit edit, redraw and enter edit, although sometimes i think that doesnt work, dont really remember.

Yeah, I know about the snapping but having a lock function would be cooler as well, I think.

Yeah, I hate when I accidently miss where I was going to brush and cause the whole model to rotate. Disabling it would be nice.

Though, I have found ZAppLink to be useful. Seeing how you can set front, back, left, right, top, bottom, and two custom views, it will let you switch between those. I was rendering stuff and I need to make sure I didn’t lose that view, so I used the custom view 1 to set the current scale, rotation and position. That way if I need to change the view to do something, I click back on custom 1 and bam, I’m back where I needed to be to render. Even better that you can save the views too.

I second this idea :+1:

It happens all the time, when I paint or sculpt that working on the edge of the object is a real pain, or because I start my stroke a few distance way from the object, that the all thing turns up, because I have cliced into the canvas instead on the surface of the object.

a shortcut to force or disable the standard rotation feature of Zbrsuh would be a great add.

I just also recently thought it would be good to ‘save’ a view as well so that if you are working at an odd angle and you wanted to come back to it, you could just click and return to that view.

Revanto you can do that for a while now

in ZB 3, the Zapplik have that function, and before that with ZB 2 it was also possible with a script shared on ZB central, but I don’t remeber the name

I also really like to use the move brush like a maniac along the edges of my
models and get very frustrated by the constant accidental rotations of the model.
It kills all the potency of the move brush for fine tuning silhouettes.
I use zappviews a lot but it doesn’t lock the view as we all know.

But today I got the solution.
It’s so simple it makes me feel like a complete idiot.

1-Append a polyplane.
2-Make it huge and far.
3-Merge with Subtool master
4-split and delete when your done.

I really feel stupid.

Good solution. :+1: I don’t think you really need to merge. Just append a Plane3D. You can use Color>Fill Object to make it black if you wish. Remember to select the Plane3D subtool and then rotate in the viewport before attempting to resize (otherwise ZB will crash).

yeah, you’re right, I don’t have to merge at all.
I don’t know why I tought I needed to.

Also thanx for the tip about slecting and rotating the appended tool,
I never understood why zbrush kept crashing when I used deformation-size
on a newly appended subtool and I was too shy to ask…
