Local symmetry with mirroring?

Hi!

I’ve got a question about local symmetry with mirroring.

I’ve got a humanoid figure, and he’s got boots which have bilaterally symmetrical faces on his boots.

Since there are two boots, and each boot has bi-laterally symmetrical elements, is there a way to have local mirrored symmetry on the elements but also have that update to the other boot?

Perhaps it would be easier to simply import one boot with correctly-placed pivots for local symmetry and mirror afterward, but I thought I’d ask here.

Thanks,

Dan

You can’t do what you want to do.
But you can do what you suggested as is the best workflow.
You can try to use >transform>Spivot to set up the local sym line, but I don’t think it is going to give you the results you want…but I could be wrong.

Thanks Goast for your reply,

Ok, what I’ve done is just imported my model orthagonally with locally-centered pivots for normal symmetry, since I just discovered another thread where I can transpose multiple objects as needed (and mirror everything after that).

Dan would you please expand on your last post please? I would like to do what you describe, I am really new to ZB and simply floundering around trying to figure things out. What is the “new thread” you mention? And how does it work?

thanks,

willt

Heya Will!

Here’s the thread in question detailing how to move multiple subtools using the record and playback feature.

This method is nice coz there’s no need to rebuild subdivisions and such.

I see you’re in the same town as Pixar! Cool.

Thank you very much.

Yes, Pixar is about five minutes from my studio.

You’re welcome.
