Local division and retaining polygroups or mask

In 3.1 I used a method where I would mask or isolate geometry and divide these areas for more density for localized detail. Zbrush would create a new polygroup for the denser areas and I would maintain the mask and invert it to easily see where the added density edges were for sculpt reference. In 3.5 (I am guessing with the addition of groups loops) when an area is locally divided the polygroups of the tool along with the mask are discarded and only new triangular borders are uniquely polygrouped. I can still see my new denser areas by turning on the frame, but I can’t easily select the newly made denser areas to redivide further, and my guide to their location, without the polyframe, is gone. Is there a work around or setting for this somewhere to polygroup the locally divided areas, or retain the mask?

I am having the same problem, does anyone know a way around this?

I just saw a plugin by marcus http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=28045 which I think will solve my problem. I see this plugin was uploaded on 2005 so it could be old now. But is there no way to do this in the current zbrush 3.5? I need to do a local subdivision twice in the same area.
