Has anyone else found this issue. I’ve been working with the new 3.12 mac release of zbrush however I get an error message if I try to open a 3.12 ztool in the 3.1 pc zbrush. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this? is saving as an obj the only way? many thanks
It can’t be done as a ZTL. 3.12 introduced some fundamental changes to the file format, due to the fact that textures and displacement maps are now applied on a per-SubTool basis from within the Tool palette rather than on a per-model basis from the Texture palette.
There are a couple ways that you can get it back to 3.1. One would be to export the high level as an OBJ and then reconstruct subdivision levels. The other way would be to extract both high and low res from 3.12. In 3.1 you would append the high res to the low res, divide the low res to match the high res poly count, then do a Project All. You’d use this second method in a case where reconstructing subdivision levels fails.
cheers Aurick. I had a feeling that this would be the case. It does kind of skrew up any kind of workflow between pc and mac users which is a shame. Will this issue be resolved with the 3.5 update. I’m assuming its a release version incompatability rather than a platform issue? Thanks for the info
Correct, and things will be unified with the next version.
