Anyone know the cause of this error (in attached file)?

Been happily working away on a face mesh, saved it, and now won’t load

Saved at level 6 a number of times, and polypainted thus far…

any help much appreciated

Operating System: Windows XP Version: 5.1 Service Pack 2 System architecture: Intel Xeon, HyperThreading Physical processor count: 2 Logical processor count: 4 Processor speed: 3065 MHz Built-in memory: 2559 MB Free memory: 1924 MB

Thanks

What are your Preferences>Mem settings at?

How many polygons does the model have? How many HD subdivision levels?

Try deleting the contents of the ZBrush3\vmem folder.

Thanks for your reply aurick

My mem prefs are at 8, and I’m at 6 subdivision levels…

OK - I’ll try deleting the contents of the vmem folder - thanks for the advice; appreciated

I HAD started a new one anyway

EDIT: The vmem folder was empty- I deleted it anyway.
On startup ZBrush then reconfigured itself…

However, the original file still seems corrupt somehow :frowning:

cheers

Number of subdivision levels doesn’t help much. One mesh can have a million polygons at level 8 while another can have 20 million. So number of levels is irrelevant. What matters is the number of polygons. (FYI, the MaxPolysPerMesh setting has NOTHING to do with number of allowed levels. It is maximum number of allowed polygons, in millions.)

You also only gave a couple of your Mem settings. What about Compact Mem? Number of undo’s? These affect performance as well.

Anyway, it sounds like this mesh has most likely become corrupted. There is no cure for that. But I want to try and help avoid future problems, which is why I asked for the other info.

Hi aurick:

Preferences>Mem settings 7.50
I haven’t ever changed it.

Base mesh polygons 4357
Subdivision levels 6
HD subdivision levels 5
Compact Mem 1024
Doc Undo 2
Tool Undo 4

Single mesh - No subTools.

Thanks for querying this problem

cheers
