Load material button is greyed out?

Win Vista 64bit, Zbrush 3.1, 4gb of ram

You can see my problem from the topic. I was happily Zbrushing and then i had to restart Zbrush - after restart load material button is not usable? Restarting Zbrush doesn’t help.

I tried removing some of the startup files, but i think it’s not a good idea as i don’t clue where the fault might be.

Before this i was using imageplane 3 but i’ve never had any problems with it. I also added one matcap material and saved it and i then tried to remove it from startup material folder but this didn’t help either.

I have a clean copy of Zbrush 3 folder which i haven’t yet tried to restore, (licence?) but i think it would be nice to know if there is some sort of exact solution to this, as i wouldn’t like to re-install all the plugins.

Thanks in advance!

Have you installed any plugins that weren’t released by Pixologic? If so, one of them might not be playing nicely. Try clicking to launch ZBrush, then immediately holding Shift for the duration of the launch. This disables all plugins. If the problem is resolved by this, then one of your plugins is to blame.

Also, you may want to run a virus scan.

Yes, i have quite many of the scripts installed! But disabling them didn’t help. BUT i found the problem:

Removing startup folder custom materials AND CustomUserInterface31.cfg seems to restore load button back to normal.

Removing startup materials only doesn’t do it. If i removed all custom matcap materials AND deleted UI config then after restarting Zbrush, load button worked OK!

Adding materials seems to cause the problem. Once i add 10 or so materials and restart, problem comes back. Maybe one of them is broken? Can’t be the amount of materials as there is less than i usually have i’ll try to isolate problem material later.

Thanks for the reply!

Materials files can vary a lot in size - it may be that you have some large file sizes and they use up the available space more quickly.

I think it might actually be material count… I think i have something like 40 matcap materials in startup material folder…total of 16mb - strange problem since i think so far it has been ok amount.

But now that i tested it just going above certain material count seems to trigger this problem.

Anyway, i guess i’ll just have to load extra materials manually when i need them.
