Lizard sculpt - a ZBrush hobbyist's first attempt at a realistic creature

Title says it all. Based on the common “blue belly” lizard that I often caught growing up in California. I know the scales look phony/repetitive but not sure how other artists have tackled interlocking scales? This is what I was going for (http://www.californiaherps.com/lizards/images/soccidentalissgraciosusdors.jpg). In any case, critics welcome!

Nicely done. What scale alpha did you use, and what was your process of applying it to the sculpt?

Thanks. I downloaded a free alpha (http://pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/alpha/) and brought it into Photoshop to tweak it for my purposes. I had one alpha that had a bunch of scales on it to block in the majority of the scales and then another one with a single scale to fill in between them. I also tried overlapping them in places. I found it very tough to get a realistic interlocking scale effect but I tried my best…

For the scales on the head, I carved those out by hand. I dug little trenches and then pinched them together. I’m sure there’s a more efficient way but that’s what I knew how to do.

Thanks for the response. Working on a lizard of my own. Do you have any plans to texture this sculpt? Thanks again.
