Liopleurodons Ferox

Awesome. A very special work, really.:+1:

this is one of the best images with dinosaurs i ever saw. How did you create the underwater enviroment?.. have you used a picture and modified it in photoshop? It looks awesome:+1:

pssst…they’re not dinosaurs.

Johnnybravo! and good composition too!
>>> I usually compose backgrounds with a mix of photos (between 2 and 15, it depends). Sometimes, I use a basis made with terragen for the ground, then make a “collage”.
I hope next week, I will be able to put on our websites a new demo, showing how we make our illustrations, and also make all the demos readable both for PC and Mac.

Soyseitan >>> Thank you! That’s true, I missed to say more about Liopleurodons Ferox: The name means “smooth teeth”
they belong to the order of plesiosaurs of marine reptiles. They appeared at the end of Trias (-227 to -206 millions years ago) in Europe, and may be Central America. They could kill every marine animals thanks to their strong jaws. They had a good vision and moreover, could perceive the smell of their preys in the distance, like actual sharks. The biggest predator that has ever existed!!!:grimacing:

pssst…they’re not dinosaurs.
well…they look good anyway :stuck_out_tongue:

and good composition too!

No doubt wonderful work. And making of… is the icing on the cake.

Just absolutely incredible!

Congratulations first, your work is outstanding in every aspect!

I wonder what references you had for creating these models “as realistic as possible”. I mean, did you work all on yourself or did you have some professional paleontologists to work at your side?

And how important is “being anatomically correct”, when publishing a book like yours? Does it matter at all or is it considered just an art-book for the love of it? And where the hell can I get my copy from?

 Everything begins with the most possible documentation. For certain animals, there are a few references. So we contact specialized paleontologists.

We usually work with J.Sébastien Steyer (Ph.D in Paleontology and Researcher at the CNRS/MNHN-Paris) who corrects the models and brings the missing informations.
Marc often begins his models with a skull or incomplete fossils. At this point, the knowledge in compared anatomy is very important. ( cf Watsonisuchus madagascariensis )

Paleontology is a Science always in evolution. For instance, Marc has sculpted Ichthyostega(the 4th on the top of the gallery) for the MNHN of Paris…
1 year later new fossils were found and questioned his sculpture. Then he had to sculpt a new one: Ichthyostega 2 which is now in the Royal Institute of the Natural Sciences of Brussels…

Very interesting! Thanks for your quick reply. Is the book already available for purchase? If so, please let us know and keep up the good work!

Nerdfx, thank you for your interest… our work is is visible on our websites.
No book available for purchase actually but we are open to all propositions!!!

We made 3 demos on our common site: Hox. They are readable for PC in .exe and for Mac in flash…
Soon are coming other demos on our websites…
