I want to render in ZBrush but I can’t get the secondary lights to work at all in the render. They show up in the preview mode but won’t render. They’re turned on (orange) and the shadows setting is turned on under each light property and my materials are mostly the standard material that will be affected by light. I would love to get Keyshot but I can’t afford it right now so I have to get the built in ZBrush renderer to work, unfortunately I can’t find any tutorials (out of the small handful that even exist for the built in lights and renderer) that cover my problem. If anyone know how to get the secondary lights to actually render I would really appreciate it!
Bump up the intensity of your secondary light…
@regnas Thanks for the suggestion but I already have the intensity on my backup lights cranked up super high just to try and get them to work. They only show up in the preview renders and don’t affect the best or fast renders at all
You must be using the 64 bit version. The lights don’t seem to work in 64 bit when using Best render. They do in the 32 bit. That being said, despite it being called “Best” render, it is a legacy feature and not the best choice. “Preview” mode using BPR is better and a lot quicker.
@zber2 Thanks so much for telling me this! I am using the 64 bit version. That really bites that it doesn’t work! But now at least I know its not something that I can fix so I can stop wasting my time trying to get it to work. I guess I’ll stick with the preview render option like you said. Thanks again so much!
You’re welcome!
I thinks lights works as designed. The problem, that always has been there from I know, is that the shadow maps ignore other lights. If you have a main light and a rim light the main light will project a shadow in the rim light. The result is messy and unreadable when using more than 1 light with shadow. A bit surprising limitation.
The only way to avoid the problem is to compose them in Photoshop.
