Layers like Photoshop?

Hi guys

I was wondering if there was a way to export individual polypaint layers that only had the paint information on them rather than if they were flattened on a 50% grey background.

Essentially I want to be able to paint skin details on different layers (base colour, veins etc) in ZBrush and then export those layers separately for individual adjustment in Photoshop without having to switch the layer mode to multiply or screen etc (which inevitably changes the way the painted layer will look and behave).

Its easy enough to create a new layer in photoshop and paint straight on it (as if it were a sheet of glass); you only get the paint info without having to change the layer mode.

Is it possible to export layers from ZBrush and have them work the same way?

Short answer, no. You can’t export an image from a layer directly, you’d need to create a texture map from the polypaint and then export that (or use GoZ to send the whole model and texture to PS). And that method doesn’t allow any transparency.

Thanks for replying Marcus

So if I create a texture from a polypaint layer is it possible to export and retain the transparency that way or will the paint detail still get flattened onto a grey background?

Any texture map will be exported exactly as it appears in ZBrush, without transparency.

Okay…thanks Marcus
