Layers in Zbrush 4 are broken?! (answered)

Anybody else having issues with how the new layers are set up?

It’s bothersome enough to have to hit record if i want to sculpt again after changing the layer’s opacity. But when i hit record the model will inflate slightly which messes up what i’m working on. I need the mesh to stay exactly where it is at.

Additionally when I open up my workfiles from zbrush 3.5 in 4.0, none of the existing layers are respected by 4.0 at all. The layers are in the list with the proper names but turning them off or on or changing the layer strength does nothing at all.

I don’t know if I’m just doing it wrong or what. But sadly, the state the layers are in now renders zbrush 4 completely useless to me. It’s a good thing I didn’t have to deactivate 3.5 in order to start using 4. :frowning:

Here in the forum have been posted some tips you must follow to export ztl from3.5 to 4 also about the work with layers

Ok I see now that you have to turn off all layers in your 3.5 files and save them out before opening in zb4 and have them open correctly.

But, I’m still having issues with the way a layer will inflate some if i press record on that layer to make more edits to said layer after adjusting the layers opacity.<img src=“http://www.zbrushcentral.com/pixo/atn.gif”>

Former versions of ZB never did this, I had the ability to freely go back and forth and change layer strengths and still make edits.

Layer recording is always at an intensity of 1, whatever the Intensity is set to. If you want to change the intensity of a layer and then continue to record at the new intensity you’ll need to do this:

  1. Turn off all other Layers
  2. Turn off Recording and set the Intensity
  3. Press Tool>Morph Target>Store MT
  4. Turn on Recording
  5. Press Tool>Morph Target>Switch
