LAYERS --how to bake in (solved)

When i delete layers when visible, they are simply deleted and not baked in. I see the bake all feature, but i want to bake individual layers.

—thanks for the merge layers, that’s one i wanted!

Anyone know if there is a Quicksave for 4.0 that works on projects??

andreseloy I think he means geometry layers. I was wondering that too. because in 3.5 you could “bake” in individual layers, by deleting them while visible. not possible anymore. only bake all or nothing it seems. not a good solution in my opinion.

Yeah, i meant geometry. Thanks for the quick reply though.

  1. Set the layer you want to bake on, all others off.
  2. Store a morph target.
  3. Delete the layer.
  4. Switch the morph target.
  5. Delete the morph target.

Marcus I am just banging my head right now. could have really thought of that myself. it’s a bit of a workaround though. I don’t quite understand why the old function is gone.
regardless, thanks a lot for pointing my head into the right direction

I created a macro for this.
Unzip the contents to
…\Pixologic\ZBrush 4.0\ZStartup\Macros[make a new subfolder or use Misc]\

It seems to work on any layer selected in the list, I was worried it would only work on the top layer but it seems to be happy with whatever layer you want to throw at it. Seems undoable as well (hurrah).

anyone else notice that 3d layers somehow automatically get baked in? for example i have a lady’s eyebrows and nipples on separate layers. now when i turn on and off visiblility for those layers nothing changes. they use to work fine a week ago. The layers were inexplicably baked in!!! This is not good at all. Please share if you have the same experience.

–i’ll try the macro, hope it works! thanks.

you have her nipples on separate layers? kinky

Yeah, quite, i wont tell you what i have on the other layers. Thank god there aren’t folders or it would be very dirty. ha.

I’m using the macro,… which is an odd workaround, but I still have to create a new layer on top of my sculpted layer,… because it looks like it merges down one.
Also, I"m using 4R6 P2 and this problem still exists,. but the thread says its ‘solved’? I would say its still a huuuuge bug.

I had 3 layers,… turned the second one off,… and I never got it back,. it won’t turn back on. So I spent the last 3 hours finding this thread and opening zbrush 30 times to try and figure it out… grrr
