was wondering the workflow of these two together.
I have a model where i SDiv it to lvl 5.
Then i did some adjustments on lvl 3, where i used multiple layers.
now when i goto lvl 5 to make adjustments i can’t use the layer system.

I’m geussing the only option is to delete them 1st.
Hey there,
don’t delete the layers, instead just go to SubDiv 3 and make sure that you deselect the layers. Don’t switch off the visibility, just click on the active layer, so that the background of that layer button changes from a dark gray to a light gray. After that you should be able to SubDiv 5 again and create new layers.
Hope that helps.
Very similar problem - Im working on sdivi 5 atm and I dont appear to have any layers on any levels - and cant make any layers either? Am i missing something ?
@Steampower
Maybe you´d used HD-Geometry? Or is a part of your tool hidden?
Neither as far as i can see, it just refuses to give me any access to layers?
Hmmm, are you able to create polygroups from masking?
Because it seems to be similar to a prob I´d earlier, caused by HDsculpting.
It´s the only solution I´d been told from support.
Either Hidden parts or HDsculpt.
If thats not the answer then you should send a ticket.
edit: Did you rename those layers? In my case those layernames were still visible, but greyed out.
No HD, no layers nothing available for layers options, its all faded out, checked every options I can see and any logical thing I can think of but it just wont let me have layers for any subD.
Hey, found a possible answer to your prob:
AURICK:
LAYERS
Help! My layers subpalette is disabled after local subdivision!
“You can prevent this from happening by disabling the layers prior to locally subdividing the mesh. The layer menu will then continue to work correctly. However, your existing layers will no longer be accessible.” - Aurick
Mmm Il look into the ins and outs of that and at least see if i can avoid the same issue next time, thanks
