Layer question

Ok, so I have read up on this on the online docs but I can´t see that it should have the limits I experience.
I can only have layers on one subdivision level on a modell.
For example, if I make a new layer on say subdiv 5 and then go up to subdiv 7
I can’t create a new layer on that level. To do that, I have to go back to level 5, delete that layer and go back to level 7 and now I can create a new layer to work with.
Is it supposed to work that way?

You can only have one active (different from “visible”) layer/subdivision level at a time. Go back to the subD level you last created a layer on , and click on the layer slot of that layer. You’ll see it becomes highlighted as it is activated or deactivated (note, this is different from clicking on the eyeball to toggle visibility) . Deactivate it, and then you will be able to create more layers on different subD levels.

Aha, that’s the trick. Thank’s a million Spyndel!

Also, and you may know this, deleting a layer while it’s visible is essentially committing it to the mesh. Deleting it while visibility is off is in fact deleting it. Basically, it can only be on one subd at a time because it works through morph targets. They’re still incredibly useful though!

Thank you James!
I guess it’s safest to do layer work only in the highest subdiv then.
I think I will write myself a checklist next time I start a svulpt…
