Wow, that´s some wicked character. Good work. Like the texturing allot.
nice of you, to share. its pretty awesome…
really good sculpting, however, I noticed there are some areas where you can see the polygons like in the joints.
I can’t say i know what causes this, or how to fix it, but that seems to be the only (barely noticable) fault that I can spot.
Keep it up there buddy, this creature is brilliant
have any sculpting vids up anywhere?
Wow, i really like that last piece, the creature is cool, but what i like the most is the texture you use, i wish to give some advice but i’m a noob, and im actually not good at all yet, but really good work
It seems that your normal maps needs more definition (we can see squares in various places on your model).
But overall it has a nice color and pose!
Nice man
very nice sculpts - you could prob separate all the hard surfaces into sub toolz …this would give you a good amount of polygons for the details
Great stuff! Excellent likeness on Ms. Portman. Slythe takes me back…
the polygons show up because I forgot to “soften Edge” or it might have been the displacement map tangent space etc. the texture is all done in zbrush with polypaint. it’s a 2k map and the entire creature is in one UV map, and it’s using only one SSS with a weight map controlling the epidermal scatter weight. the final sculpt was at 5.5 mill. polys.
the concept is by Carlo Arellano, but you won’t find on his blog. I think I got it here http://www.cgmwonline.com/Carlo-Arellano.html
this creature was done in a span of 2 weeks for a class at Gnomon School of VFX, with instructor Alex Alvarez.
and I think thats it. I’m going to re extract Normal map and Disp. to do a turntable. and def. fix the feet and some seams. maybe add crazy pupils to the eyes, because I think it’s just a dialectric shader.
you said you did this for a class with alex alvares?? im jealous.
but good luck with the turntable, this character is really rad, and it’ll make a wonderful addition to any showreel
Yeah! I think when we’re long gone the next Earth creatures that will evolve to rule the planet will be the insects. There’s already something like a billion ants for every human on Earth.
cool bug:D
Hey everyone! I really appreciate all the comments on the last character, I 've been getting through some hard times.
which brings me to this guy. Not really my strongest but, I’ve been giving serious thought in working for Disney Animation studios.
Not long ago, Disney came to gnomon and gave this awesome presentation on the making of Tangled and all of the work involved
for the character Rapunzel; hair, facial rigging, lighting etc. Ever since then I grew a higher appreciation for the work involved in
stylized characters as a sculptor. I knew then that I would be happy going into work doing all that stuff and working with some of the
most talented artist. Anyways… now I’m rambling.
Anybody out there ever worked for Disney or Dreamworks as a 3d sculptor or character???

Good job the Characters are looking great.
Good job on McLeech. I recognized him immediately. Sorry to hear about your hard times… I know some ex Disney modelers. Haven’t talked to them in years. I’ll see who I can track down. I sincerely hope things get better for you.
Been quite a while since I posted on here.
In case you’re wondering, this is the final sculpt / 3D model that was printed and used in the film.
Also, I thought this was pretty neat: http://www.thebentbullet.com/#!/home
